Robert D. "Bobby" Black is a native of Mount Holly, and the son of Robert H. and Betty J. Black. Robert graduated from Mount Holly High School in 1972, graduated from North Carolina State University in 1977 and married Melanie Smith in 1976. Robert and Melanie are the proud parents of Anna Black Summerlin and Joe Black and are the overjoyed grandparents of Cooper Summerlin.
Robert became licensed in Property/Casualty and Life/Health in 1992 and worked with a local insurance agency in Mount Holly for seven years. In March of 1999 he established Robert D. Black Insurance Services. The agency was the first Erie Insurance agency in Gaston County, and the firm has been a consistent winner in production contests with Erie. Although Robert is busy with the day-to-day operations of running the "business side" of an agency, he still loves working personally with clients. Nothing gives him greater pleasure than to help someone appreciate the true value of insurance, as well as being there for any client in their time of need.
Robert is involved in many of Mount Holly’s civic groups including the Mount Holly Rotary Club (Paul Harris and Distinguished Rotarian Award), the Mount Holly Community Development Foundation (2006 Chairman), and Stowe Family YMCA (2001, 2002, 2005 and 2006 Chairman). He also served on the Mount Holly City Council from 1997 to 2001, and served as Mayor from 2001 to 2003. Robert now serves as Archives Room Co-Chairman for Mount Holly.
Robert’s hobbies are yard work, going to the mountains with family and friends, and being around people!
